Hi all hope everyone is good.

We currently have a Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Standard  that is running out of space. Currently 1 gb left out of  135 GB on c:\   I have checked the c:\windows\temp files and i noticed it is taking  49.8 GB of disk space with many files called

IE5AA1.tmp
IE55F0.tmp
and others similar
also
ASPNETSetup_00035
ASPNETSetup_00033
and others similar
also
cab_12_2
cab_12_3
and goes on.

Is it safe to clean the temp folder to free up disk space? Since this files do belong in the temp folder.

Yes, I do this frequently. If the files are still needed and in use, the OS will prevent the deletion.

I also use cleanmgr.exe to do a cleanup. It 's not a exception to gain 5 to 10 GB.

Whatever u do, don't cleanup the winsxs folder, its a bit of discussion wheter it can/should be done, but it's not supported by ms for win08r2. It is on win12+ btw.

Also, treesize (free) is a good tool to look at diskspace usage.

Dennis thank you for the info i checked the winsxs folder and currently is taking 32.1 GB of space.

The only files i cleaned up was the windows\temp files and in manual mode(select all files, right click, delete)

Now i am reading this link about winsxs
