So, I'm curious if anyone else experiences this. I have documents on my Win10 machine. They are also sync'd to OneDrive. From the Start Menu, I search for a document name. It finds it. I click on it. It opens the browser and opens the doc in Word Online...WTF? Anyone found the magic knob I need to twist  to get the doc to open locally?

Not to be Captain Obvious but isn't that set in "file associations"?  Tools, Folder Options, File Types?

Yea, that's not it. In Settings, Default Apps (in Windows 10), .docx files already point to local Word. But, from a search, it appears to want to launch the file with Word Online. Must be a search thing.

If I remember correctly, this happened to me before. If a file was local on my hard drive, it would open up in Word from my computer. But if I opened a file that was in OneDrive, and not local on my computer, it would open up in Word Online (or whatever the Office application was). This apparently was due to my OneDrive not being synced locally to my computer. So an online file would open with Office Online and a local file would open with the local version of the Office application.

Not sure if this was a bug or if it got fixed. Haven't tried it recently.

Darren, forgive me if you've already done this but are you running the new ODB windows desktop client?  Dunno if it solves the problem but I'm liking it better than the old one.

Far better. The old one was absolute rubbish, this one is doable in an enterprise
