RD Gateway is installed on a DC Win2008R2.  A second DC Win2016 is present in the same site.
When I stop the AD DS service on the Win2008R2, then RD Gateway does not work anymore.

I there a way to deal with that ?
I'm migrating to AD2016, and I want to bring the old DC temporarily down. But because RDG is installed on it I can't shut it down, so I want to simply stop the AD DS service.

That's a bit vague [biggrin]

Probably a DC discovery issue. Stop de AD service, disable it, reboot the box. Oh, and can we assume that your OLD DC has DNS references to find the other DC?

Thanks for the reply. I will reboot now.
The OLD DC has indeed DNS reference to the new one.

Okay, The RD client gets an error when validating on the RDG server "the logon attempt failed". When I start the AD DS service, it works.
It looks like the RDG service can't validate on AD when installed on a DC when AD DS is stopped.

I disabled the AD DS and AD WS services and rebooted.
After the reboot AD DS was again set to automatic and started. Tried it 2 times.

Don't know if this is relevant or helpfull :
nltest /finduser:MyAccountName gives an error I_NetLogonControl failed: Status = 50 0x32 ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED

Executed on OLD DC Win2008R2 with AD DS stopped.

right, makes sense. This is a DC so you want AD to run.

How about the other way around. Stop AD, then restart all RDS related services? Just shooting from the hip here ...

Done that. No success.

I demoted the Win2008R2 DC. It's now a Member Server with RDGateway.
I gues I'll do it that way for the others too. Too bad I can't easily go back.
