Or, pay the cloud provider that tried to push their stuff onto the client $233 per month for one server.

ONE.  SERVER.

After 17 months the cloud becomes way more expensive because that $233 per month ain't stopping.

And that's what I'm seeing.  If the client has good IT, then on-prem is cheaper than the cloud.

James, the cloud may still be cheaper, depending if the customer is using a cloud provider and not having to hire a local IT Pro or contractor to manage a local server. Hiring a full time IT person would cost the company $20K, $30K, $40K, or whatever the payroll cost per year of a full time IT person that they need. Or if they hire a contractor, whatever the cost of the contractor would be on a yearly basis. So there is that cost savings on top of the actual server and CAL costs. But then they lose control of their data, which ultimately is a bigger cost of going to the cloud.

Obviously the cloud is working for someone or it wouldn't be here.  But I still stand behind the argument that, just like with outsourcing to India, too many managers are leaping before they look.

I thinking about opening up a branch of service that specializes in getting people OFF the cloud.

BTW, this T-shirt is from an indiegogo for a home server called Daplie.
