At least they had a full backup.  That's the most important thing.  The second most important thing is

Most people don't know that sound = vibration. I have experience in other fields where that is used to troubleshoot problems. It might be time for hard drive manufacturers to sound test their drives. Apparently, the drives were not SSDs. They may withstand the sound.
