We can talk this stuff to death. I've owned weapons since I was 8, never had an accident and have never been with anyone who has. It's about safety, knowledge, and respect of the weapons. You are correct, let's let the stupid ones weed themselves out over time. The weapons are NOT the problem, the people are.

Yeah same here.  Growing up in rural Iowa everyone had a gun rack in their truck that had a truck, which almost every family had one.  Even if it was the Winter Driver vehicle.

EVERY home had a gun rack with loaded (NOT A TOY) rifles and shotguns at an easy reach.  As kids we were taught as soon as we could walk that these were not to be touched and saw them in action.

So for us growing up it was NEVER a thought to even attempt to mess with them.  As we got older we were taught gun safety and would join on hunting trips.  Even if we were not shooting we went with to carry game or lunch...

As much as Iowa is Gods Country, there are still bad people.  So home defense was a real concern.  However!  Since almost everyone had something loaded on site, they were very picky whose homes they would break into.

As to the "Why do you need a machine gun?"  Well if your talking about an AR-15 its basically a deer rifle with a scary carbon fiber case instead of Walnut stock.

The rest of it is choice, which is an argument I am staying out of.  Personally for me a 40/40 Savage, a M&P 9mm Shield (LTC needed for carry & conceal with only 8 rounds) and the DP-10 Shotgun are more than enough.

I can tell you from experience, the sound of a shot gun charging a shell will take all of the bad ass out of you and will make you ready to confess all of your wrong doings.  It also prevents the common homeowner from putting a round through their neighbors refrigerator...

People ask "What do I recommend?" I say EDUCATION!!  If you have to ask me to pick a weapon for you.?!?  Then you are definitely not ready buy one...

Also from Iowa Tim, but idiots are everywhere. The guy who shot himself when the sign fell over, that just happened here.

http://www.1380kcim.com/news/2016/bagley-man-injured-in-shooting-range-accident/

We also just changed the conceal-carry rules so that you no longer have to have ever handled or fired a weapon. you take a short course and a group test with one person using the computer simulator. Imagine all these people packing in public!

Tim...we've been here before so I'll leave it to mr two tonne tractor Summerlin to recover those bits.

Phil while I agree with your comments a bullet from anything has no respect. It just has a singular job and will attempt to complete iits straight line mission.

Mike omg. I wonder could we get those people to check a jammed round in anything. Best done in pairs I hope

Heehee Joe...

It's Mr Five (RAID 5) Ton Tractor Summerlin.

Although to be fair I don't think we can use a Tractor since I have NEVER seen a tractor drip as much oil as a Harley.  In fact, I've never seen a New Tractor with a oil drip pan while on the show room floor...

I saw the guy at the rang.  You being from Iowa have heard about some idiot shooting himself crawling through a barbed wire fence.  Almost count on it once a year, same for someone hitting a culvert with a snow mobile...

I would be all for getting clearance every other year like a drivers license or car tag.  Like a safety refresher class which we did in the military.  It would probably save some lives.

Even in uniform accidents can happen. I've seen two myself.
Course funniest thing I ever saw was a guy fire a bren gun .303 round from a Lee Enfield rifle while in kneeling position.
Think it flung him back 5 meters

If your finger is on the trigger, it is not an accident...  That's being Stupid...

If it falls over and shoots you,,, well yeah.  Stupid but still an accident...  : )
