Hi everyone . I had a similar post month or months ago about deleting temp files in windows\temp folder which i safely do. It seems though this Cab_XXX files are recreated every day taking up space. One cab file can be 123 MB and multiplying that Cab files they fill up server c: drive.

I read a link :

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/cabxxxx-files-found-in-windowstemp-folder/2e86137e-7e6b-4cb7-9a3c-4ee73f665742

5kyFx replied with a solution :

we had the same problem. Deleting the cab_xxxx files only resulted in regeneration every 30min.

Checking <windows>\Logs\CBS folder I found lots of .log and (some) .cab files

It seems, that windows wasn't able to zip (makecab.exe) one of the .log files.

Solution was:

in <windows>\Logs\CBS folder delete the oldest .log file (you can also delete them all)

in <windows>\temp folder delete every cab_xxxx

in the following regeneration process, the remaining (CBS) logs where zipped correctly, and <windows>\temp was left clean

Now am planning to follow this step just asking if anyone had similar issue and if there is another way around of fixing it.

Thank you

Followed the steps i posted here from the other person. Took a copy of the log files also except the latest one i didnt move it just in case. I do not see cab_XXX files now created with big size.

I've also seen this problem, apparently only on computers with Office 365 click-to-run. The solution you found (kudos to 5kyFx) worked for me too.
