hello,

we tried restoring just one single file to an earlier version under properties
to original location etc.
what happened was unfortunately more than that file was restored? (seemingly)
from what we can tell...

anyone else seen this?

we know we were only working with the one file since we started the recovery
under properties with that file only.

thanks,

j

Were the other files a dependency of the file that you restored or visa versa? There was a great little 3rd party program called Dependency Walker. Enter the name of any file on your PC & it listed it's dependencies.  I don't know if it's still available.

You may still be able to recover the "original files" from a VSS copy.

I generally restore to another location, experience tells me odd happens too often.

thanks,

good idea to restore to temp location first always - we sometimes do
but I figured hey it is just one file...

we only lost less than an hour of work to get the files back to where they were...

looks like the dependency walker only tracks app and module dependencies?
