All-
Before I go trying something silly, I thought I'd run it by the group. I had created a whole environment in the old Azure portal, complete with Cloud Service, Virtual Network, DNS and AD. Now I'm in the new portal and there doesn't seem to be a way for me to add resources (i.e. new VMs) to that old (apparently termed "classic") environment. Even when I try to provision a classic VM, it doesn't let me select my cloud service's virtual networks. I'm sure I missed the memo on how to do this but I'm not finding it anywhere obviously. Do I have to scrap the old to add to it?

Apparently, there is a difference between the current portal & what seems to be called classic. I don't know if that helps your situation.

Thanks for that. I actually figured it out. It took some getting used to the new UI but I found my old cloud services, networks, etc.

That's good news.  Thanks for posting the solution. So may people say that they solved it but never say how.

Agreed. Resource groups are very handy. And more RBAC options. Easier management.

And also, there's this new thing called powershell... [smile]

Joe--I don't think the old portal is still available any more. But yea, I like ARM. What's not entirely clear yet is, can I use ARM and provision resources into "old style" cloud services, or is it a hard break to go to ARM?

Darren It's still there

https://manage.windowsazure.com
We have a lot of subscriptions in there. The migration path is still not completed and until then the V1 portal will be there. With regard cloud service, no ARM can't do it. But think of a resource group as a cloud service and go from there.

Edited link and the name, apologies Darren.

Thanks Joe! I had read somewhere that it was being turned off earlier this month and didn't see a spot on the new portal to get back to it, so I appreciate that link.

I've still not heard the migration story in full from V1 portal to the Ibiza Portal (V2 with the blades)
I have been told it will be at least a few months off, if not more and will be customer driven migration.
During the migration period, you won't have access to management, but the underlying servers/ services will not be affected as its the same hardware/ VM's etc underneath the portal.

The migration tool will be GA soon
In the meantime you can take a look at the underlying tools that the this is being built on;

https://resources.azure.com/
http://armviz.io/#/

resources.azure.com (Also available directly in the new portal under "Resources") allows you to drill all the way down down on each component of your deployment and it reveals all the JSON for that deployment. This is what the migration tool coming is being built on like seen below.
You can copy out this JSON and deploy from that yourself if you wish.
