I have several Hyper-V hosts,  some of them have a Logical Switch created with SCVMM. Others have a Virtual Switch created with the Hyper-V Manager (cfr. Standard Virtual Switch in SCVMM, if I'm not mistaken).

Can I do a live migration between them, in both directions ?

I did the test, but I'm not sure about the results. Too many other factors. Some VM's didn't wan't to move, others did - at least *I think*. Like I said, I'm not sure...

Pieter,

Yes I believe its supposed to work in theory.

The last 2 times I've attempted, I'm afraid marketing failed to live up to practice and I've had the same results as you.
And ended up trying to migrate them all.
Was happy with those that moved.
Then wither copied or used Disk2VHD for the ones I wanted to reduce.
This did involve down time.

I'm prepared to accept its just wonky and I no longer get disappointed by Hyper-V's failings.

Thanks for the reply Joe. For those who didn't want to be moved (Live migration) I removed the Network Adapter and recreated a new one once the VM was moved. That worked, but of course I had to shut down the VM and it had no LAN connection during the move, making the whole *Live Migration has no downtime* point useless.
On the other hand, there were VMs that I could move succesfully. Nothing particularly special about those VMs.

So I still doubt whether it should work or not, or in what conditions.
