Soooooo.

I've been out of the game. Like for a long time. Nothing deliberate but simply focus changed with kids, Celtic tiger then lack of same, regrowth and two businesses.

But.

I am thinking of attending IT/Dev connections in San Fran 2017. But is it as good as it used to be in Orlando, where I met most of you here face to face for the first time?

Nick

Nope

I'm hoping to make the European PS one. That's about it.
Going to the US as an Irish man we could get deported! What with Rump running the country

Interesting.  Link?

I am in two minds on this trip.  I dont fancy going to the states to be honest any more, but for Wincon, I might.

Just my .02

I would honestly have to get Mark's take on this.  The events appear to be nothing but a big sales pitch anymore.  The only one that I push to attend at the moment is the PowerShell Summit since it is a learning seminar with hands on AND I can actually work with the presenters on issues that I am having much like when we all met long ago.

On top of that, Florida would be my choice IF I had to fly over from Europe.  Why make you fly even further across the US enduring even more time zone changes?  Besides, one "could" bring the family along to enjoy the beaches and other attractions at the same time.

Again that is just my personal observations, from what I have seen (other than the PowerShell Summit) there has not been an event where I felt I really wished I had been there because ---

I am sure Mark would have a lot more input on the matter for you guys.

Joe,,,  Loki asks about once a week when we are going to be able to meet you and your family...  Perhaps if things settle down next year we can invade your neighborhood.  [smile]

Although I was busy at Ignite, I did see some decent stuff there.   It depends on the speaker.

There are events here on the east coast that are very good draws.
For instance Techextravaganza is doing well.   It's a small but intense one day event.   The door price is $0.00 but there are only so many seats.

SQL Saturday is also a big draw.  In Atlanta they turned away over a 1000 folks.
That is also low cost.

There is some good power shell stuff at the above Techex day.

This past one was dominated by our GPO guy Jeremy.

All things considered I think a Minasi meeting would be a good draw if we could get the Sponsorship.

Getting approved for -

1) Time Off  -- "This is not an official Microsoft or <insert vendor> event you cannot go"
2) Financial Assistance -- See Above...

are the two bug hurdles for this still.  For me anyway...  I am still waiting for approval for the 2017 PowerShell Summit which may or may not be happening this year due to budget cuts.

Perhaps a one of two day event piggy backing one of the larger events.  That may help with covering the travel costs with the other speakers as well...  (?)
