If I kept count of all the SQL servers where tempdb was never even looked at I believe it would be quite a number.

Take out of the discussion how many times we see it on the system partition,  most also have only one file.

That being said, in my Microsoft CRM lab on my virtual servers, I have four files in my Tempdb.  All have the initial size and growth rate.

These are virtual SQL servers.    Not a lot of Ram and CPU assigned.  Two cores, 8 GB.   My workloads are small. 

But, regarding heavy use of workload, is the guide of one file per core really a good guide?

Given how SQL allocates resources , it would be good to get the Minasi teams thought on this.
