I'm just so frustrated with O365.  I don't know whom to vent at so I pick you all because I'm sure you can feel my pain.  Lets not even talk about how useless support is these days.

The following thread is a post to MS's community forum with the details.  I hope it's logical cause I'm so pissed I could scream.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_o365admin-mso_manage/mdm-setup-missing-key-information/042ac62e-9bee-40ee-8b9c-05ff1918e773?tm=1469027682721

Why is it so difficult at times to set this stuff up?

Why is task specific documentation missing on pages in O365?

Why o WHY is documentation all over the place?  I spend more time looking for the MS approved documentation that I do actually setting things up and then I run into unknown steps that still need to be followed.

So now I have O365 admin portal I need to use to get my job done, OK.
Then I needed Azure portal because ADFS DirSync is being retired um OK.
Now I need Intune portal um OK but WTF MS.

Go to the cloud they say, it's less of a headache because no more on-prem boxes to worry about.  BS I'd rather have On-Prem back but it's too late to pull back now.

"Now I need Intune portal um OK but WTF MS."   But what if you are not subscribing to Intune or OMS..?    Oh,,, that throws in some more wrenches into the mix...

Paul, MSFT documentation is a nightmare nowadays.

They have this notion that a pile of disparate, often-incomplete blog posts stuffed on a GitHub is documentation.

It's like having a book without a table of contents and whose index is called "Google."

Jeezus, if a vendor five years ago said, "you need docs for the product you're paying us for?  Google it," then most of us would have said, "um, same to you, AND the horse you rode in on."
I'm okay kind of with "agile" code.  I'm not okay with having to play treasure hunt for the docs on it.

I've been trying to figure out WHAT I can say here because they make you promise not to talk about the contents of the exams.  So I am hoping it's safe for me to at least say that studying for the O365 exams is a nightmare.  What Mark just said ... they expect you to use search to find what you think you might need, and hope you found the most current\relevant\accurate content.

True all that. Once it set up it is quite stable though, it's a temporary pain (Except for people who make a living out of it like me)
The fact that really kills me is that they still did not make Office 365 one experience from a user perspective.  I have an attachment in outlook web access, what do i need to do to save it in Sharepoint? Right, download it and put it in the same portal again in another place...

Yes! That's like one if the first things people gripe about when they try to use O365 and SharePoint ... or first things I hear about when I get with other SharePoint support peeps.

I've always said that SharePoint felt like it was designed by a bunch of committees who don't communicate with each other ... and that feeling doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon.

BTW - I recently read Have Spacesuit, Will Travel ... what a great little book!  Dated by today's standards, but it covers many elements of science, troubleshooting, problem solving. Love it!

Best documented solution by Microsoft ever, is what they are proudest of.
But yes, its a nightmare.

Personally I love it when Hybrids just break, for no reason, and mail backs up.
Odd how MS support are always super fast responding.

So I guess we all feel the same pain here.  What can we do about it?  I mean our livelihoods depend on us knowing MS products inside and out but they are making our lives so hard.  I wish I have the luxury to be concentrating on one MS product so I would know where the latest and greatest info on that one particular product is....  I don't.  I support everything from smart phone all the way to Hyper-V as I'm sure most of us do.  It's a full time job just keeping up never mind when you run into a problem.  Want us to continue to roll out and support your products?, work on making things easier for us your customers MS or we will find another solution.

The statement is all well and good but it's falling on deaf ears [frown]

Wait until you wrestle with the alternatives out there.
Try scripting your way in to Google Apps..

Well said!  Another way besides petitions is needed to tell the people at the top.  Normally, a boycott is the best way but not in this case.  MS has too much of a hold on the industry.

Eat more chocolate, drink some a lot of red bull, stay up for 42 hours, then read the help file.
It will make sense then [biggrin]

Right.  I completely understand that it's a HUGE ship and it takes a long time for such a thing to change course but I don't think anyone at the top sees it much less cares.

I agree with that statement too.  The people at the top don't care.  The only way that they will care is if they see a decrease in profits or if you can rattle their cages another way.  There were times when I found ways to contact people who would rather have people like us to go through the normal channels.  They would ask me, how did you get my name or how did you get my #.  That was a secret.
