Hi,

I'm interested in getting hold of some NAS storage for use as a home backup facility.

My concept is that any file in a folder and all sub folders located on my PCI, will automatically be copied across to a replica folder on the NAS box when added changed saved etc.

Appreciate any advice on hardware and software to perform the task

Cheers

I had suggested an NAS to a friend of mine who does a lot of photography.  You'll have to choose what device is good for you based on brand & price.  For example, I'm not a fan of Western Digital drives but many people are.

Veeam Endpoint protection.
Schedule the job to suit RPO.
After that any NAS with some Raid Protection will suffice (Raid 1,5,6 or 10)

+1 for VEEAM

for just folder sync a little robocopy script would suffice I think.

As for the NAS I have a lot of very good experice with Synology, QNAP and Thecus. There are a lot of good models in all price ranges.

As for the HDDs the Ultrastars like e.g. the 7k6000 series have never failed me: https://www.hgst.com/de/products/hard-drives/ultrastar-7k6000

You can have a look at https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-q1-2016/ for a review on hard drive reliability

I use SyncToy still  Easy GUI user interface and free...  haven't tried it with WIN 10 yet but works fine with WIN 7

You could always schedule a task and use Robocopy /MIR as well.
