Hi all. I came across this problem today. When you try to delete any excel or pdf file or any other kind of files from the server it deletes them successfully. When you try to delete a file with the extension .msg [Edited:If i save a new .msg file on the server though i can delete it with no issues at all]. it says the action cant be completed because the file is open in another program.I logged on as domain admin remotely and tried to delete that file with no success. I tried to delete other files with the same extension .msg but still the same problem Before scheduling a restart of the server does anyone have a clue as what is may caused this?

Note: Server hosts files as a member server and nothing else

Okay let me add to this. While users had their brake one of them which has access to this files tried to delete one of the .msg files she wanted to delete and successfully was deleted. But when she tried to delete other .msg files she couldnt. I told to the users that have access to this files to restart their system and check again if its possible now to delete them but they couldn't. One thing that comes to my mind is that today i had to cancel a scheduled scan from eset on the server. Is it possible the antivirus could cause this? Maybe system considers files still open by av?  i will test again tomorrow or else schedule a restart.

Thanks

Hi,

as long as you can confirm that none of those files actually ARE opened by a user (NET FILE on the server), I am inclined to attribute this behaviour to AV.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked with "resmon.exe" and "share and storage management on the server" file is not open based on the results.

I didn't know about net file command I will try it tomorrow.

No need, it's the same thing as "open files" in "share & storage management".

Everything worked fine today. Files that had the issue where deleted successfully and no restart was needed. AV? Cant be sure but glad its fixed.

Thank you
